Article Processing Charges
Transparency in fees reflects our respect for authors and the wider scholarly community. AFNS charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) only after a manuscript has passed peer review and been formally accepted. There are no fees for submission or for rejected manuscripts. Our APC policy is designed to balance quality, fairness, and accessibility.
What the APC Covers
The APC funds essential services including:
- Peer review coordination and editorial management
- Copyediting, typesetting, and production of high-quality article layout
- Online hosting, indexing, DOI registration, and digital dissemination
- Long-term digital preservation and archiving
- Promotion, visibility, and citations of accepted articles
Fees & Amount
The current APC for articles accepted for publication is:
Item | Amount (USD) |
---|---|
Accepted Article Publication | $2,949 |
Waivers & Discounts
We understand that APCs can be a barrier for some authors. AFNS offers waivers or discounts under the following conditions:
- Authors based in underdeveloped or low- / lower-middle-income countries (as per World Bank classification) may apply for a waiver of up to 50% of the APC.
- Waiver requests should be made at the time of submission.
- Discounts may also consider the quality of data analysis, uniqueness of the manuscript’s objectives, ethical aspects, and rigor in methods.
Submission & Payment Timing
APCs are only charged upon acceptance. There are no fees during initial submission or peer review. Authors will receive an invoice after the acceptance notification, and payment must be made before publication can proceed.
No Hidden or Additional Charges
AFNS does not charge extra for supplementary data, high-resolution figures, or number of tables. Also, no charges are levied on rejected manuscripts. Transparency is central: the APC shown is the total cost you will incur after acceptance.
Why Our APC Is Set at This Level
The fee reflects carefully calculated costs for maintaining quality, ensuring global access, and preserving scholarly outputs permanently. AVNS is dedicated to fairness; therefore, our waiver policies ensure that authors without funding are not excluded. We invest APC revenues back into editorial system, visibility, and service improvements.
